Abbracciamoli Tour 2025: sport in support of psychological care after leukaemia
Abbracciamoli Onlus, which has been raising funds for paediatric haemato-oncology wards for over ten years, has announced its new project for 2025: setting up a multidisciplinary scientific committee dedicated to the psychological support of young people after leukaemia treatment. The initiative kicks off on 3 May in Lombardy with the Eliminator Challenge Night in Rozzano, the first stage of the “Sport trains the mind” Tour.
Real help for those who won the battle but still carry the scars
Leukaemia is an enormous challenge for children and teenagers. But even after recovery, the difficulties don’t end: anxiety, loss of self-esteem, fear of relapse and social isolation are common. That is exactly why Abbracciamoli Onlus has chosen to focus on mental health, which is too often overlooked, with the goal of raising €40,000 to fund a team of specialists offering tailored support to young former patients.
Sport, music and solidarity: starting from Rozzano
The first event of the tour, sponsored by the Lombardy Region, will take place on 3 May at the Centro Sportivo Targetti in Rozzano (Milan). The Eliminator Challenge Night is a spectacular Australian-style swimming relay set to music. From 7.30 pm to 10.30 pm, 144 participants in 24 teams will compete until only one is left, while the audience dances and cheers from the stands.
The event combines inclusion, entertainment and team spirit: all central to the mission of Abbracciamoli, which has always seen sport as a path to recovery.
The Lombardy Region alongside young people
The tour is supported by the Lombardy Region. Federica Picchi, Undersecretary for Sport and Youth, highlighted the importance of the project:
“Sport is energy and hope. We are proud to support those who turn the hardship of illness into strength for the future. The Abbracciamoli Tour is a concrete example of how solidarity, health and youth wellbeing can go hand in hand.”
A rich and inclusive calendar
After Rozzano, the tour will also stop in Lodi with the Ultramarathon on 12 October at the Piscina Faustina. It is a well-established event that every year involves athletes of all ages, including children.
The 2025 Tour is part of the official programme of “L’Italia dei Giochi”, the series of events promoted by the Milano Cortina 2026 Foundation in the run-up to the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Twelve years of commitment to research
Founded in 2013, Abbracciamoli has organised 48 sporting events, involved more than 6,400 participants and raised over €35,000. The funds have gone to centres such as the Centro Maria Letizia Verga, the San Matteo Hospital in Pavia and the Burlo hospital in Trieste, to provide advanced treatment and support for families.
The new goal, focused on psychological wellbeing, comes from the awareness that healing means not only beating the disease but also rebuilding peace of mind.
